RIP
RIP: Radical International Patriots was originally produced in the winter of 2001 and reedited in the spring of 2002. The work grew out of a reading of the canon of art history, and is a playful response to some of the figures and issues, such as the notion of artistic genius (”clowns”). The work is reverse cast, with women playing the major figures of art historians and artists of the past. Other issues at the intersection of politics and aesthetics are addressed, such as the question of bias in standardized testing (see Been Jasmine). The idea of political representation in the form of a flag is addressed by Broke Heart with RIP’s solution: a transparent flag. “Enough fighting for colors, enough dying for colors,” Broke Heart says, “Rest in Peace, colors!”
